Free military veteran peer support groups are being held in the Brazos Valley, and they are open to all military members, veterans, and family members. Military veteran peer support groups are designed to help fill the gap in services for veterans. They provide a safe environment for veterans and family members to talk to each other about issues specific to the military community and transitioning back to civilian life. Each group is facilitated by a peer who was trained by Bring Everyone in the Zone. The facilitators are volunteers, and they function to keep the groups on topic and make sure it remains a safe environment for everyone. Topics vary to address the needs of those participating in the groups, and everything discussed is confidential. The groups are a community based service, and there is no affiliation with the VA, the military, or any medical entity. Childcare is provided for both of the Sunday meetings and can be arranged for the Monday meetings if needed. Point of contact is Heather Huhnke, 979-200-1715, firstname.lastname@example.org.
